Artist's Statement

Picture
It is ordinary to use one's hands; it seems to take longer to create with them, yet only a brief moment to destroy. Some of my earliest recollections are enjoying drawing around my hand. These memories resonate with consequences of actions and the interdependence of all life; the capacity to harm or to nurture is in the hands. In this body of work, power and impermanence are explored by tracing around my hand; each tracing is a unique remainder of personal responsibility. I call this series “Handmark Symphonies.” It is a contemplation of what inspires humanity to recognize its own basic goodness in connection to one another and to nature.
